Companies were chosen by revenue size in a given industry. Exceptions include EBITDA used in case of Utilities. Private companies are not included in the list of leaders within an industry. Mergers and Acquisitions prior to 8/31/2013 are incorporated into results.
Financial and Industry metrics data is obtained from company disclosures such as annual reports, company presentations. Metrics data is from the latest annual report available as of end of August 2013.
Industry metrics were chosen to showcase relevant industry performance data. An example would include Revenue Passenger Miles and Yield Per Passenger Mile for the Airline Industry. Company metrics were chosen to showcase overall company performance across different areas such as profitability, size and forward looking growth. Ratios such as Operating Margin, Return on Equity, Return on Invested Capital are Bloomberg defined calculations. There may be multiple ways to calculate a ratio and therefore may be different than a company's as reported ratio. Forward looking growth rates for companies use Bloomberg Consensus Estimates.

Industry Median- this is based on the median data of the Bloomberg Industry leaders for a given industry serving as a proxy for the industry as a whole.
